National Coffee Day:
- Coffee is the second most traded commodity on earth. Oil being the first!
- Americans consume 400 million cups of coffee per day. This is the equivalent to 146 billion cups each year, making the U.S. the leading consumer of coffee.
- Hawaii is the only state in the U.S. that commercially grows coffee.
- Coffee was the first food to be freeze-dried.
- Thanks to coffee, researchers found that older patients with high levels of caffeine in their blood were more likely to avoid Alzheimer's.
- Dark roast coffees have less caffeine than lighter roasts. Yes, even though the flavor is often stronger, roasting actually burns off some of the caffeine.
- Just smelling coffee can wake you up. Scientists reported that simply inhaling the aroma of coffee can alter the activity of some genes in the brain, reducing the effects of sleep deprivation.

The U.S. Navy plans to equip its Virginia-class submarines with Xbox 360 controllers, which will control the ship’s periscopes. The joystick now used, along with its corresponding control panel developed by Lockheed Martin, cost about $38,000. An Xbox 360 controller, meanwhile, goes for about $30 and can be purchased just about anywhere that carries toys.

In the News:
An amazing video from China has emerged of a crab climbing out of a boiling hot cooking pan and turning it off, seemingly saving his three crustaceans chums. In the footage, captured in Lianyungang in Jiangsu Province, north of Shanghai, on September 5, the clever crab climbs out of a heated pan and then presses the button to turn it off, while three crabs remain in the pan.
Now It was unclear whether the crab's heroism managed to earn it and the buddies a permanent stay of execution.

An Iowa woman is going viral because of a very unique thing she did at her wedding. She didn't carry flowers, she carried puppies.
After seeing the idea on pinterest, she contacted her local pet rescue organization and they brought a litter of puppies to raise awareness about why people should adopt, not shop.
She and her bridesmaids all carried puppies down the aisle, and she's been told a flood of applications have been sent in to adopt the puppies that were part of her big day.
