In The News:
Today is Presidents’ Day.
Thomas Jefferson was not a big fan of birthdays — a friend once recalled him saying that the only birthday he believed in celebrating was the nation’s, on the Fourth of July. In 1803, while president, Jefferson reiterated that distaste to his attorney general, writing, “I have declined letting my own birthday be known, and have engaged my family not to communicate it.”

Matt’s Mid-Day Fact:
Presidents' Day was started as a celebration of George Washington’s birthday on Feb. 22. But in the 1970s, the holiday was moved to the third Monday in February to create more three-day weekends. #MidDayFact

More News:
A Swiss skier competing in the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Winter Games posted a video showing him performing a different sort of athletic feat with an escalator. Fabian Boesch, who is participating in his second Olympics, posted a video to Instagram showing him taking on an escalator in South Korea. "After 20 years I still couldn't figure out how these things work! Am I doing it right?" Boesch wrote.
The video shows Boesch walk up next to an upward-moving escalator and place his hand on the moving handrail. Boesch remains in the standing upright position as the handrail lifts him off the ground and carries him to the next level, where he climbs the rest of the way up.
Olympic skier takes a unique approach to the escalator.
