- Why put pickles on your sandwich when the pickles can BE the sandwich? Elsie’s, in Haddon Township, New Jersey, is replacing the bread on a sandwich with thick pickles. They take a good-size pickle, carve out the middle and stuff if full of the usual sandwich fixings: turkey, cheese, etc.

- Thinking of giving your young child an allowance? Experts say ages 5-8 are considered a good time for starting allowances. One rule of thumb suggests 50 cents for every year of age. A 6-year-old would get $3 each week or month, depending on your budget. Hand over the allowance the same time each week. To keep track through the year, give your child 52 homemade IOUs to exchange for the weekly allowance. Experts are divided over whether to tie allowances to household chores.

- It’s not about money or celebrity. And it’s not even about getting your hands dirty. The job with the least prestige is: real estate broker. That’s the word from a nationwide Harris Poll of adults that measured Americans’ perception of the most and least prestigious professions… The professions with the greatest prestige: scientists; doctors; firefighters… The professions with the least prestige: accountant; stockbroker; real estate agent.

- Police in Wisconsin (Muscoda) are investigating a strange break-in. Police say that someone broke into the toilet paper dispensers in the shower building at a campground and took the toilet paper. Damage is estimated to be around $300 and nearly all of the dispensers will need to be replaced.

- A California man suspected of stalking a woman and breaking the conditions of his restraining order was arrested Saturday morning, following a two-hour search of a corn maze. An officer finally found the suspect in a chicken coop at the corn maze.

- A middle-school student in China called police to complain that his mother wouldn’t turn down the audio on her phone when she played games while he was trying to sleep or do his homework. When the police arrived, the kid said that he has a lot of homework and was under a lot of pressure to do well so he could get into a good high school.

- On this day in 1891: The first gasoline-powered car debuted in Springfield, Massachusetts.

- Bonnie and Clyde’s sawed-off shotgun from the 1933 shootout at their Joplin, Missouri, hideout is up for auction today (Friday). Auction company RR Auction estimates a final sale of around $75,000… RR Auction is also auctioning off the wristwatch Clyde wore when he died, a bulletproof vest found in his car, and a black book of poems that Bonnie wrote in 1932 while jailed in Texas for a bungled hardware store robbery.

- Walgreens has teamed up with drone delivery service Wing to bring food and beverages, over-the-counter medication and other items to customers. The testing will begin next month in Virginia and will offer more than 100 products and pre-built ‘packs’ for purchase in the Wing app… Approximately 78 percent of the U.S. population lives within five miles of a Walgreens store.

- Joe Williams’ 24-year-old Jeep Cherokee was stolen. Police were able to find it on a residential street in Portland, Oregon. Inside, the thieves had left behind a stuffed bear, tattooing equipment, a cell phone charger, and tools used to break into cars. While cleaning out the Jeep, Williams’ children found a disposable camera the family had left in the glove box. After developing the film, they found a couple extra pictures that the alleged thieves had taken: a photo of a man driving a car with another man seated next to him, and a selfie of a woman. Williams posted the photos online and several people recognized the alleged car thieves.

- Just in time for the holidays, Cadbury has created a Christmas Cottage Kit that that's made entirely of milk chocolate. Inside the pack are two milk bars, a milk winter bar, and dairy milk with gingerbread bar and lots more. The kit goes sells for $20 and comes with instructions. Will this become a new favorite Christmas tradition?

In The News:- Talk Like A Pirate Day • Butterscotch Pudding Day

- UPS’ familiar brown uniforms are getting their first major redesign since 1925. The company’s 125,000 global delivery workers will soon have new clothing options in performance fabrics, adorned with an enlarged UPS logo. The fashion update will involve only new styles — there will be no change to the uniform’s famous brown color… Referring to its drivers as “industrial athletes,” UPS (UPS) said in a statement that the newly refreshed uniforms would improve their “comfort, safety and performance.”

- A former Disney World employee and his cousin are accused of stealing clothing and wigs from Disney rides and then selling them on the black market. Last year someone had broken into the backstage area of a retired Epcot exhibit and taken an animatronic character’s clothing. Detectives found that the character Buzzy’s green military-style cap, red bomber jacket and his custom rubber hands were gone. Police say Buzzy’s costume was sold for thousands to collectors.

- Pepsi is going orange for a limited time. The company is teaming up with the Cleveland Browns and Sunday Night Football to create “Believeland” Pepsi in a bright orange hue. The drink was made in honor of the first time Cleveland will be featured on Sunday Night Football in 11 years… If you want to get your hands on this special soda, you’ll have to live in, or visit, Cleveland. Pepsi only made 1,100 bottles of the stuff — 100 for each year Cleveland has waited.

- In Johannesburg, South Africa, a woman tried to escape a ticket by driving off as it was being issued. So the traffic officer hopped on the car’s hood and was taken for a ride. Eventually the officer was able to get off the hood and the driver was arrested.

- A man walked into a store in England and grabbed a banana from a counter, then placed it inside his sweatshirt. He then pretended the banana was a gun. Lucky for the thief the clerk didn’t see him steal the banana and assumed he had a gun. He made of with some money and cigarettes.

- Do you remember in 1964: The Addams Family premiered on ABC. The sitcom is based on Charles Addams’ quirky New Yorker cartoon creations.

- “Dad joke” has made it into the dictionary. That’s correct. Merriam-Webster has added more than 530 new words to its dictionary, including: Vacay, Deep Sate, Escape Room, Inspo… and like I mentioned, “Dad Joke”. So if you want to know the now official definition of Dad Joke”, it’s “a wholesome joke of the type said to be told by fathers with a punchline that is often an obvious or predictable pun or play on words and usually judged to be endearingly corny or unfunny.” If still confused, ask my kids...

- If you’re relieved the kids are back in school, then you’re not alone: Sixty-seven percent of parents think children’s summer vacation is too long.

- Beef jerky, the snack of both dads and jocks, may typically be a carnivore’s dream, but for vegans looking for an alternative Kellogg’s has one. The new vegan snack is called Leaf Jerky… The company says Leaf Jerky is plant-based, vegan, and sustainably farmed with 11 grams of protein with only 80 calories.

- Don’t play GOD… In what sounds like the plot to a Syfy channel original movie, a plan to curb a mosquito population has backfired, making the disease-carriers even more resilient to pest-control measures. The plan involved genetically altering mosquitoes in Brazil so their babies would die instantly. For a time, the plan seemed to be going swimmingly. The genetically-modified mosquitoes bred with their wild counterparts, causing a dip in the wild population. Unfortunately, the numbers came roaring back just 18 months later. Researchers think that the wild female mosquitoes may have grown wise to the measure and began avoiding the genetically modified males.

- Is this surprising? One in three Americans are constantly worried about... money. Simply put, we are in constant fear of losing what we have today. More people are worried about finances than death or losing a family member. Our main worries when it comes to money is living paycheck-to-paycheck and falling into serious debt.

- An armed robber’s attempt to rob a corner store in England was stopped when an 11-year-old girl and her dad pelted him with bread and bottles of fruit juice.

- Hogan’s Heroes is the latest classic TV series getting the reboot treatment, with a sequel series from original series co-creator Al Ruddy in the works. The sitcom would be set in present-day and would center on the descendants of the original characters as they team up for a global treasure hunt… The original Hogan’s Heroes ran for six seasons and 168 episodes on CBS (1965 to 1971). It was about a group of Allied prisoners of war running secret operations out of a German camp during World War II.

- NBC’s newly named Peacock streaming service will feature several original series, including a pair of reboots from the vaults: a newly unveiled Saved By the Bell with original castmembers — including Elizabeth Berkley and Mario Lopez — and Punky Brewster, which returns original star Soleil Moon Frye as a grown-up version of her former character… Peacock will launch in April and will include a rebooted Battlestar Galactica.

- If putting your kids to bed has become a challenge, perhaps they'll actually listen to their favorite animated characters handle the task. Dial-up Disney's free hotline and they'll be connected to Mickey Mouse, Woody, Jasmine, Anna and Elsa, Yoda and Spider-Man, who will encourage children to go to sleep with one of six bedtime messages. The number to call is 877-7-MICKEY and it works across the US through Sept. 30.

- Are you the kind of person who wants to put up Christmas decorations the minute the leaves turn orange? Well go ahead - psychologists say it can make you healthier! The British publication Hull Daily Mail talked to two psychiatrists who say the urge to decorate for Christmas is tied to nostalgia and "childhood magical emotions of excitement". Putting up the decorations early, they say, just "extends the excitement" and can help make us happier. When is the right time to put up Christmas decorations? Should they go up before Thanksgiving? Could putting them up too early end up affecting *other* people's happiness?

- Everyone in the US who read the newspaper funny pages from 1980-1995 will likely remember the witty comic The Far Side by Gary Larson. Well, good news: According to the official Far Side website, more Far Side comics are on the way. The website posted a Far Side comic illustration with the sentence “Uncommon, unreal, and (soon-to-be) unfrozen. A new online era of The Far Side is coming!” The website didn’t provide any additional information on when or how Larson’s comic will return.

- Most people know that going grocery shopping on an empty stomach can only lead to heartache, when you realize you have nothing to show for your grocery run but potato chips and Ding Dongs. But according to a new study (University of Dundee), making any kind of decision while hungry can lead to poorer choices for the long-term.

- A man in Italy who followed bad directions from his GPS got his car stuck on a cliff. He had to pay over $2,000 to have his car recovered from the location.

- An EasyJet flight from England to Spain, was delayed: the pilot didn’t show up for the flight. Passenger Michael Bradley, heading out for vacation with his wife and young son, stepped forward: he had his pilot’s license on him, and he’d be happy to fly the jet to Spain. It took less than a minute to get a reply from the airline: yes. It was an easy decision for EasyJet since Bradley is a pilot for the airline, and he is qualified to fly the plane being used.

- There are some pretty cool jobs out there. You can get paid to eat chocolate, watch Netflix, shop, or even write about food. But one of the coolest jobs out there was just filled and you’re about to be seriously jealous. Texas Monthly recently announced that it hired its first Taco Editor… If you’ve ever been to Texas, you know that they take their tacos very seriously, so it makes sense that Texas Monthly hired food writer José R. - Workers at a thrift store in the UK discovered a kitten trapped inside a couch donated to the shop. Employees began hearing mewling shortly after the sofa was dropped off as a donation. The donor called the store later in the day to say a kitten was missing and may have been in the couch.

Then he admitted he actually tossed a jacket with a metal zipper inside the microwave.

- Fortnite might still have the lion’s share of public attention, but that doesn’t mean it’s hurting the other gaming phenomenon. Minecraft now has 112 million active players every month, a surge of 20 million over this time last year. This includes players across all platforms.

- What’s the biggest cause of marital fighting? Money. So if you and your spouse fight over money, what makes you think lending money to a family member will have a happy ending? It won’t. - Police in Brazil caught two car thieves after they decided to hide in a cage full of animals in a zoo. A zookeeper found the crooks in the cage and kept them locked in until the cops arrived.
