Veterans Day!
An official United States public holiday, observed annually on November 11, that honors military veterans; that is, persons who served in the United States Armed Forces. It coincides with other holidays, including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. The United States previously observed Armistice Day. The U.S. holiday was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.
Side note:
Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day, a U.S. public holiday in May; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day honors those who died while in military service.
In the news:
According to a study by the AA in England, drivers over 65 are most likely to drive through flood waters, risking damage to their car. In total, half of drivers in the UK would risk putting themselves in danger by driving through flood waters, with 18 to 24 year-olds being the most cautious age group. The latest survey figures also showed that men are less likely to turn around than women, with three-quarters of male drivers admitted they'd plow on.
How cautious are you? Remember, your car is not a boat...!
