In The News:
The Salvation Army in Springfield, MO received a gold coin in one of its kettles on Friday, November 24. The coin was found amongst the other coins in the kettle while being sorted.
Current gold prices are just under $1300.00 per ounce. The coin will be sold and the money will be used for local programs. Other unusual items have been found in local kettles before, including rings, foreign currency and gold teeth.

A California rescue chicken, named Roo, that was severely injured in a fight with another rooster is learning to walk again with a special wheelchair.
Roo's beak was broken in two places, his comb was bloodied and he suffered damage to his head and swelling on his brain. Roo couldn't stand properly and had trouble eating and drinking until provided with a specially-made wheelchair from Australian company Chicken Therapy Chairs.

The parents of a Texas toddler shared a video of their exhausted young girl telling Santa exactly what she wants for Christmas: a nap.
The video shows Linden, tuckered out from a long day of shopping with her parents, sitting on St. Nick's lap and being asked what she wants for Christmas.
The girl responds that she wants to "take a nap."
Santa and the girl then mimed taking a snooze together.

In The News:
A college student wore a sandwich board-style FAQ to his family's Thanksgiving dinner in Georgia so he could avoid answering cliched questions. Robert Clarke, an Ohio State University student, tweeted a photo of the sandwich board he wore to his family's Thanksgiving dinner in Marietta.
The sign contained some common questions students typically receive about college life, including his major -- "Athletic Training" -- and whether he has a girlfriend -- "No, I am allergic. I am trying to maintain my GPA."
Clarke said the board allowed him to silently answer the questions of relatives by simply pointing to the answer.

In The News:
Only 1 in 10 Americans are eating the recommended daily amount of fruits and veggies, according to a study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Federal guidelines recommend eating 1.5 to 2 cups of fruit and 2 to 3 cups of vegetables each day. Two years ago, only 9% of Americans ate enough veggies, while only 12% ate the required amount of fruit. To make matters worse, the most commonly eaten vegetable is potatoes (think french fries).

Thanksgiving dinner will cost less this year
- The average cost of a Thanksgiving dinner has dropped for 2017.
- A feast for 10 people should cost $49.12 on average according to the American Farm Bureau's 32nd annual price survey. That's 75 cents less than last year.
- The survey tracks 12 Thanksgiving staples: Turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls, green peas, cranberries, veggie tray, pumpkin pie mix, pie shells, whipped cream, milk and miscellaneous items.

The company, owned by Kraft Heinz, released a tongue-in-cheek ad for its very-real "Thanksgiving Dinner Pants," which bear the image of stuffing on their elastic waistbands.
