- Cuddle a Pig! Cotton Branch Farm Animal Sanctuary in Leesville, South Carolina is seeking volunteers to cuddle pigs and, eventually, adopt the animals as pets. The organizations rescued more than 200 pigs from a Kentucky property about a year ago. After suffering abuse and neglect, the pigs need more human time before they are ready for their forever homes. The sanctuary’s director says, “These pigs weren’t socialized because they lived in such large numbers. We noticed how quickly a lot of them were coming around when we spent time with them, and in order to find them homes, we thought it was a good idea to have people start coming out.”
- Carrot Cake Day
- on this day in 1690: The first paper money in America was issued by the colony of Massachusetts.
- How do you cut sandwiches? A survey finds that 40 percent of kids like their sandwiches cut diagonal; 25 percent in the middle; 17 percent whole; and 6 percent in quarters.
- Kobe Bryant Lawn Mural. A couple in California has created a massive mural of late basketball star Kobe Bryant with the help of a lawnmower and GPS. Pete Davis and Kelli Pearson, owners of Turfprinter, started with a simple black and white image. That image was loaded into Davis’ GPS-guided lawnmower, which creates dark and light shades by bending grass blades with air. The mural is 115-feet tall and 92-feet wide.
- Put down that knife. A guy in Brazil tried to rob a grocery store but tripped himself up when he put his knife on the counter so he could scoop up the cash. The store clerk grabbed the knife and chased the robber out of the store.
