- Slacking off at work? Bosses who notice an employee’s performance drop in one aspect of the job shouldn’t immediately think the employee is slacking off. A study led by a University of Toronto professor discovered that in many cases the employee has just shifted and refocused his efforts on a different set of tasks, which should be considered a positive sign of adaptability.
- McDonald’s making changes. McDonald's is making some changes that will most-likely become post-pandemic permanent, with the company already rolling out an all-new anti-virus designed restaurant in the Netherlands. Eat This, Not That noted some things we'll never see at Mickey D's again, like:
Bare floors without social-distancing floor decals and markers
Masses huddled at the counter waiting for food. Instead, McDonald's may implement table-side service
Dining tables without partitions
Entrances without hand sanitizers
Entry points without hand wash stations
Employees not wearing gloves
An always-opened McDonald's PlayPlace. Those playground areas could remain closed.
- Parents spying on kids via SM. You think all those adults on TikTok are there because they love TikTok? Nope. These are merely parents engaged in covert operations. A study suggests that over half of parents who sign up for new social media services do so to spy on their kids.
- National Weather Observers Day on May 4th provides a day for the people who enjoy watching and observing the weather. Weather observers often assist the National Weather Service as Storm Spotters. These hobbyists are valuable resources for communities. This day is also an opportunity to get out and learn about a variety of weather phenomena, the history of weather tracking, and find about meteorological instruments.
Mother’s Day is Sunday.
• Mother’s Day celebrations date back at least as far as ancient Greece, where worshipers observed a spring day in honor of Rhea, the Mother of the gods.
• In 17th century England, Christians celebrated “Mothering Sunday,” the fourth Sunday in Lent, to honor the Virgin Mary and other faithful Moms.
• In the United States, Julia Ward Howe, (who wrote the lyrics to the “Battle Hymn of the Republic”), suggested the idea of Mother’s Day in 1872. Howe envisioned the holiday as being dedicated to world peace.
• The first Mother’s Day celebrations in the USA took place in West Virginia in 1908, at the urging of Ana Jarvis. Ana’s own mother had passed away several years earlier, and it had been her dream to reunite families divided by the Civil War with a day dedicated to Mothers. The idea quickly caught on, and in 1914 Woodrow Wilson declared the second Sunday of May to be the official Mother’s Day.
- Vegetables sweetened with sugar. You may want to sit down for this, but a study proved the impossible: children eat more vegetables when they’re sweetened with sugar. The researchers (University of Connecticut) think this is just fine if sugar is used as a tool to get the kids eating vegetables in the first place. Once that’s achieved, sugar can be left out of the meal. Yeah, good luck with that.

- Dressing better. Research suggests a surprising advantage to dressing up for the workday. Wearing more formal clothing changes the way that people think, helping them to focus on the big picture. The study (Columbia University and California State University, Northridge) found that wearing formal clothing leads to more big-picture thinking, rather than concrete thinking that focuses on the details.

He told officers he didn't know it was a restricted area even though there were no trespassing signs everywhere.
- 2nd round of payroll Protection. The White House announced Sunday that 2.2 million small businesses loans worth $175 billion have been given in the second round of the Payroll Protection Program. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said that the average loan amount has been around $79,000. The second round of payroll protection comes after $454 billion allotted by Congress ran dry last month. The program has received another $310 billion for the second round. 3.8 million loans have been given out since the beginning of the program totaling more than $500 billion.
