In The News:

- Name Tag Day

- Turn down a free cruise? The ongoing saga of Covid-19 is global news. According to a survey the virus is making many people reconsider visiting public places or taking trips. After being reminded of two recent cruise ships that had to quarantine passengers due to the coronavirus, two-thirds of respondents said they would turn down an all-expenses paid offer to take a cruise if offered such a deal today.

- Disappearing tweets. Twitter is testing disappearing tweets. The new feature, which the company is referring to as “Fleets,” is testing with users in Brazil. The feature — which sounds a lot like Instagram Stories — could increase usage and engagement by giving casual users a way to share fleeting thoughts with less pressure and risk of sparking a negative reaction.

- National Multiple Personality Day

- New Driver crash. A new driver was reading text messages from friends when he took his eyes off the road, made a wrong turn on a bridge and went into a river. His friends were congratulating him on passing his driving test. Thankfully the young man was able to escape his car before it sunk, but he did dislocate his shoulder.

- 400 million Cups of coffee consumed by Americans each day.

- National Cheese Doodle Day

An annual celebration where fingers turn a cheesy orange as we snack on these flavorful treats! Found all across the country, these cheddar cheese coated snacks come in puffed or crunchy, fried or baked. They also come in single-serving or jumbo-sized packaging.
- Trap for Car thieves. A Southern California resident decided she’s had enough of thieves prowling her neighborhood and took matters into her own hands — and the help of a water sprinkler. Katie Camarena says crooks have been stealing tools and other items from area cars. Flood lights weren’t scaring them off so Camarena took a different and more creative approach: she opted to cool off these overnight bandits using a sprinkler. She used a motion-activated sprinkler with “an impressive amount of pressure.” The trap proved to be very effective — a would-be thief on a bike quickly ducked, spun the bike around, and peddled off.

- Speeding fines! A man in Finland was ordered to pay a $61,000 speeding fine. Finland’s speeding fines are linked to income, meaning high earners get hit with bigger penalties for breaking the law. So, when the businessman was caught doing 64 in a 50, authorities turned to his tax return and came up with the $61,000 fine.
