In The News:

- April Fools’ Day on April 1st has long been a day when practical jokes and tricks are played on the unaware. It’s a time when children convince their parents they’ve broken a bone. Parents get in on the planning, too. Classic April Fools’ jokes include caramel covered onions or fake doggy doo-doo in inconvenient places. Businesses launch impractical or unbelievable products for the fun of the day and newspapers print incredible headlines catching readers off guard.

- There are a number of people online that don't think April Fools' Day should be celebrated this year and Google is one of them. The search engine has decided to put their April Fools' Day plans on hold to show compassion as everyone around the globe deals with the coronavirus pandemic. Online, others are asking that we don't prank people on April Fools' Day too.

- Officer gives masks. Cardiologist Sarosh Ashraf Janjua got an unexpected surprise when she was pulled over while heading to work in Duluth, Minnesota. While she had been pulled over for speeding she didn’t get a ticket. Instead, the officer gave her five N95 face masks. Dr. Janjua had two of them in her bag in the seat next to her. She had been reusing the same ones because there is a short supply. The officer who pulled her over spotted the masks sticking out her bag and immediately knew what they were. From his vehicle he gave her five of his masks and let her go with a warning. He added that Dr. Janjua shouldn’t be speeding because if she got into an accident, not only would she take up precious resources, but she also wouldn’t be in a position to help anyone.

- Newlyweds donate 400 meals. A couple in England got married on March 21. But thanks to COVID-19 their reception was canceled. Rather than throw out all the food that was already ordered, the couple donated their entire reception dinner to heath care workers, feeding around 400 of them at two different hospitals.

- National Walking Day. The first Wednesday in April is National Walking Day and it encourages Americans of all ages to get out and stretch their legs and get their hearts pumping. The American Heart Association sponsors this day to remind people about the health benefits of taking a walk.

- Pit Bull driver. A Washington state man was arrested after allegedly trying to teach his dog how to drive. The 51-year-old man allegedly led troopers on a high-speed 50-mile pursuit, during which the man’s 1996 Buick allegedly hit two cars and went over 100 miles per hour. The chase ended when the vehicle drove onto a pedestrian and bicycle trail and troopers were able to put down spike strips. When authorities approached the vehicle, they found a pit bull in the driver’s seat. The man was allegedly steering the wheel from the passenger seat. He allegedly told police he was trying to teach his dog how to drive.

- Streaming is up. Not surprisingly there’s been a 50 percent increase in viewers streaming content over last year. Streaming stands at 23 percent of all viewing occurring on televisions as of the week of March 16. A year ago it was at 14 percent. During the week, Netflix’s led streaming content with 29 percent, followed by YouTube at 20 percent, Hulu at 10 percent, and Amazon Prime Video at 9 percent.

- On this day in 1976: Apple Computer was formed by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak.

- Texas spring breakers. Twenty-eight U.S. spring break tourists who returned to Texas after vacationing with a large group in the Mexican beach resort of Cabo San Lucas have tested positive for coronavirus. The 28 confirmed cases are self-isolating and dozens more are under quarantine while being monitored and tested.

- More planets. Astronomers have discovered 139 new minor planets orbiting the sun beyond Neptune. The minor planets aren’t really “new” … scientists just have a new method for spotting small worlds.

- On this day in 1778: New Orleans businessman Oliver Pollock created the dollar symbol ($).

Fun Fact:
It’s dangerous, but the average person will do this about three times a month. (Eat while driving) #funfact
