Radio Recap (Tuesday 01/29/19)
In The News:
- The Kansas City Zoo introduced its baby otters that it’s named Han, Luke, and Leia. [I don’t understand how you can name furry creatures after Star Wars characters and skip Chewbacca.]
- If you’re not sure when the Super Bowl is, you’re in good company. Over the past week, the top-searched question on the big game has been “When is the Super Bowl?” This is followed by questions about where the Super Bowl will take place and which teams are playing. (If you’re still not sure, the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams will play each other this Sunday, February 3 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Kickoff is 6:30 PM ET. The game airs on CBS.)
- The average parent clocks almost 750 stroller miles a year. The poll of moms and dads finds the typical tot will be strapped into their stroller seat eight times a week for about 62 miles a month. Moms tend to take their children on more walks, whiles dads will go on longer strolls.``
- Chilly winter mornings will cause the average person to spend an extra 24 hours in bed over the colder months hitting the snooze button. The average person will need an extra 16 minutes in bed each morning during winter before they feel brave enough to face the cold. As a result, the average worker will be late for work seven times in the course of an average winter because they overslept.
- Males with more mainstream names are less likely to commit crimes. Researchers (at Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania) compared the first names of male juvenile delinquents to the first names of male juveniles in the population and found that, regardless of race, juveniles with unpopular names are more likely to engage in criminal activity. In the study, boys in the U.S. with common names like Michael and David were less likely to commit crimes than those named Ernest or Ivan.
- When it comes to pie, does anyone need encouragement to indulge? According to a survey (by Crisco and the American Pie Council) 92 percent of Americans enjoy eating pie. No matter how you slice it, apple pie reigns supreme. One out of four Americans prefer apple pie, followed by pumpkin, pecan, sweet potato and chocolate.
- Police in Germany responded to a late night call about a loud argument between a boyfriend and girlfriend. When police arrived at the couple’s apartment they found the boyfriend covered in biscuit batter. Apparently the girlfriend was upset that her man was making biscuits with water rather than milk.
