In The News:- It has snowed in Las Vegas twice this week. A Winter Storm brought temperatures down to the low 30s on Wednesday night. Some areas saw up to an inch of snow. Pictures of snow on the Las Vegas strip and near the famous Las Vegas sign were seen on social media. The is the coldest February on record in Las Vegas since 2004. There have been traces of snow in the city four times this month.
- Do anything you can to get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. A new study (University of Western Australia and the Baker Institute) found that just 30 minutes of moderately intense walking can help improve brain blood flow in overweight and obese adults.
- Seattle’s had the snowiest February in seven decades, with accumulations of up to 10 inches in some areas. This has led to a windfall for one 18-year-old. David Holston, who does landscaping and snowplowing in Idaho, was visiting his mom in Seattle when a friend gave him the idea to advertise his services there. He published a Craigslist ad, got a $1,000 job offer, and went back to Idaho to get his plow truck. He drove it back to Washington state and made $35,000 in four days plowing snow last week.
- Do you have THIS Beanie Baby stored away, or even on display in your home? People who collected Beanie Babies in the 1990s were promised a massive return on their investment when they grew up. Decades later, the majority of the Ty toys aren’t worth much. However, according to experts, if you have Princess Diana Bear tucked away in a closet it might be time to bring it out — it’s worth $10,000.
- If you’re a dairy farmer this probably isn’t news to you, but for the rest of us out there with no cows to milk, it’s interesting to hear that a good way to get the cows producing is to play some soft, smooth, slow jams. Modern Farmer took a lengthy look at the influence of music on milk cows. Because of all the stressful noise, many farmers find that a great way to make happy cows and keep the oxtyocin flowing and milk pumping is to turn on some good music. So keep that dial set to 89.1 FM!
- When you hear a friend’s voice, you immediately picture her, even if you can’t see her. And from the tone of her speech, you quickly gauge if she’s happy or sad. You can do all of this because your human brain has a ‘voice area.’ Scientists using brain scanners and a crew of eager dogs discovered that dog brains also have dedicated voice areas. The finding helps explain how canines can be so attuned to their owners’ feelings.
