- _ A Florida man discovered that he wasn’t the only person seeking shelter at his home ahead of Hurricane Dorian — a group of frogs were also taking cover in a set of wind chimes in his yard. Twitter user @PooltoyWolf found the frogs when he went to put away his wind chimes before the hurricane arrived. Upon picking up the wind chimes, he discovered the frogs hiding in the tube of nearly every wind chime, apparently also looking for some shelter from the impending storm
- A 13-year-old Japanese girl stopped a purse-snatcher who tried to escape by bicycle by sticking her umbrella through the wheel spokes. She grabbed the cycle as the thief tried to escape with another woman’s bag and wrestled him to the ground. When he got back on the bike she stuck her umbrella through his spokes of his wheel, sending him crashing into the arms of police who had arrived on the scene.
- A man in England took secret photographs of his girlfriend in a series of mock proposals for a month without her noticing. In each secret photo he showed off the ring he would eventually be giving her. Very often Edi Okoro slipped the ring into pictures of Cally Read while her back was turned. In another photo Okoro placed the ring in her hand while she slept. When he did eventually pop the question she said “yes”… He shared the photos on Facebook and wrote: “The idea was to take as many photos, in more daring scenarios, until I found the perfect moment to propose, or until I got caught, at which point I would propose.”
- Amazon is reportedly working on a new payment system that would let you check out at Whole Foods by simply waving your hand over a sensor. The technology would keep track of the size and shape of customers’ hands and link that data to their accounts and payment information… The system will rely on depth scanning and computer vision technologies. Traditional credit card payment systems take about three to four seconds to process, but Amazon’s hand-scanning system can process a payment in less than half a second.
- A miniature horse that caught an American Airlines flight with its owner is going viral after surprised fellow passengers shared their amusement on social media. Evan Nowak recorded video aboard the flight from Chicago to Omaha showing the mini horse calmly sitting near the front of the plane. Nowak tweeted: “At this time we would like to begin boarding with any active duty military, families traveling with children under the age of 3, and horses… The horse, named Flirty, is a service animal belonging to passenger Abrea Hensley, who chronicles the equine’s adventures on an Instagram page titled Flirty the Mini Service Horse… American Airlines’ regulations stipulate mini horses are among the animals allowed on flights if they are service animals. Hensley said Flirty helps her with medical alerts and mobility issues.
