- Labor Day • Coconut Day • Blueberry Popsicle Day

- 1666: The Great Fire of London broke out. When it was finally extinguished three days later, nearly 400 acres in the city had been destroyed, including around 13,000 houses and the old St. Paul’s Cathedral.

- Oregon was the first state to make Labor Day a holiday in 1887.
On June 28, 1894, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories.

- What are we celebrating? The contributions and achievements of the 155 million men and women who are in the U.S. workforce.

- Labor Day began as a demonstration for workers rights but is modernly seen as an opportunity to celebrate the last day of summer.

- Labor Day is the unofficial end of Hot Dog season. Labor Day is considered the end of hot dog season. According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, (yes, that’s a real thing) from Memorial Day to Labor Day, Americans typically consume 7 billion hot dogs. That’s 818 hot dogs consumed every second during that time. By the way, this year’s winner of the infamous Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island was Joey Chestnut. He ate 70 hotdogs in 10 minutes.

- Thousands of moms will go into labor on Labor Day resulting in about 10,829 babies being born, according to the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Oh baby!
