- Slinky Day

- On this day in 1984: The Space Shuttle Discovery took off on its maiden voyage.

- A drunk man in China became stuck trying to crawl out of a glass ATM enclosure because he couldn’t find the button to open the door. Despite their instructions to the man describing how to press the button officers were forced to destroy the glass partition in order to free him. The man was also too drunk to operate the ATM, which ultimately ate his bank card.

- In Scotland a man set fire to his car in an effort to collect on an insurance policy. After torching the vehicle, he went down to the police station to report the crime, blaming it on vandals. The cops didn’t buy his story. It seems in setting the car ablaze, the man got a little too close, and when he walked into the police station the officers couldn’t help but notice his hair and eyebrows were singed.

- Rachel Thornburg called police to report her car had been stolen after she’d left her keys inside. It just so happened that a Clinton County, Iowa, Sheriff’s deputy was in pursuit of the very car Thornburg was calling about. The deputy had attempted to stop the car for speeding, but the driver sped off and led him on the high-speed chase. The Iowa State Patrol was finally able to stop the vehicle and arrested — Rachel Thornburg, who they say was behind the wheel the whole time.
