- At what age do you consider yourself an adult? A survey asked people to pinpoint the age at which they felt they fully became a grown-up: men said age 26; women about three years earlier. When asked what’s considered to be the “favorite age” to experience in life, the average millennial wishes they could be 23 for the rest of their life, whereas baby boomers said 32.
- Wondering where it is safe to fly your drone? There’s an app for that! The FAA has rereleased its drone app, this time with useful information on where you can and can’t fly your drone. The B4UFLY mobile app is free in the Apple app store and Google Play. The app now has a clear status indicator of whether it’s safe to fly your recreational drone, or whether you’re in a prohibited zone, like the area around an airport or a military facility.
- Don’t be using too many big words _ Everyone knows how college students will try to make themselves sound smarter by using big words they barely understand. But a study shows that readers can see through this. A psychologist at Princeton took a handful of writing samples and used a thesaurus to replace the simple words with needlessly flowery ones. Then he gave all the writing samples — the original, simple ones and the modified, flowery ones — to 71 students to evaluate. The result? As the grandiosity and complexity of the language increased, the judges’ estimation of the intelligence of the authors decreased.

Researchers at the University of Iowa gave chocolate to a group of obese and non-obese women and found that as the obese group kept eating the food continued to taste almost as good to them as the first bite. The findings suggest that understanding taste perceptions may be crucial to preventing obesity when combined with targeting nutritional awareness.
- Wanna be an astronaut? clean breath required _ Bad breath is enough to fail the test to enter China’s manned space program. China only wants to send the best of the best into orbit, meaning bad breath and body odor are sufficient reason to be disqualified right away.
- A Cleveland bank robber walked up to the counter at a U.S. Bank branch and passed a note, demanding money. When the teller took the note and looked at it, and looked at the other side, she saw the robber’s name. He had used a note that he had used earlier at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and it had his name and address on it.
- Police in Germany are planning to bill a 71-year-old woman for going to her house to investigate who was playing the loud music that was disturbing her. They discovered the music was coming from her own radio. She’d been playing the radio full blast in her garden earlier in the day and forgot about it.
- August 3rd is national mustard day and instead of celebrating with a hot dog, which is so 2017, how about French’s mustard ice cream?! Although it’s blindingly yellow, it doesn’t have the tang of mustard until after you taste a more birthday cake-like flavor with caramelized sugar and cotton candy notes. If you like the tartness of Pinkberry’s frozen yogurt, then you’ll like French’s Mustard Ice Cream. Although only available in California and New York… French’s will have the recipe available online.
