In The News:
- World Calligraphy Day

- A study showed a substantial cut in the risk of death from heart disease for heart attack survivors who ate chocolate two or more times per week. The study said the risk is cut threefold compared to those who never touch chocolate.

- Let’s talk about hygiene. No matter how clean you are or how often you shower, you leave a lot of yourself behind in your sheets. Mary Johnson, Tide Principal Scientist at Procter & Gamble, says that every day “people produce one liter of sweat, 40 grams of sebum (the stuff in your pores that makes your skin oily), 10 grams of salt, and 2 billion skin cells.” Plus your sheets pick up skincare products, hair care products, ear wax, snot, drool — lots of really gross stuff… So how often should you change your sheets? Johnson suggests at least every two weeks, though a recent survey found “one week” to be the top response.

- Why do flamingos like to stand on one leg? Two scientists who conducted an exhaustive study of captive Caribbean flamingos said they do it to regulate their body temperature. The birds also likely alternate which leg they stand on to avoid one leg becoming too cold.

- A man in Britain underwent abdominal surgery that turned out well. However, days later he had to have additional surgery because he couldn’t swallow and was having trouble breathing. It turns out that during the initial surgery, he had swallowed his dentures.
