- Senior Citizens Day

- THE UKULELE IS 140 _ Happy birthday to the ukulele, which is 140 years old this week.

- In Hackettstown, New Jersey, a McDonald’s drive-through customer reportedly paid with a “smoldering” dollar bill. After taking the money, the employee realized the dollar was still smoldering and she was burned on the palm of her left hand. Police are investigating.

- After stealing a Walmart electric shopping scooter from a store in Florida (St. Petersburg), a man drove the hot wheels nearly a mile before cops apprehended him. They found him trying to recharge the cart at a gas station. The 59-year-old was jailed on a felony grand theft charge in connection with his alleged swiping of the $1,500 scooter.

- A Massachusetts man trying to rescue a cat from a tree (in Leominster) wound up needing the rescuing. When the cat became stuck in the tree the homeowner called their contractor, who brought out his ladder. But then, 60 feet up, he got stuck — hung up by his belt. That’s when firefighters and other rescue pros came to help. Both the contractor and the cat were safely brought to the ground.
