In The News:
- Use Less Stuff Day & Stuffing Day & Cranberry Day

- 1877: Thomas Edison announced his invention of the phonograph, a machine that can record sound.

- 1995: Toy Story was released as the first feature-length film created completely using computer-generated imagery.

- Thanksgiving is a one week away! A new study says the average Thanksgiving dinner only goes 64 percent as planned.

- Stuffing Day! Every year around November, the same old question resurfaces: what exactly is the difference between stuffing and dressing? And every year we believe it to be a simple answer: stuffing is what you call that delicious mix of bread that’s cooked inside the bird, and dressing is what you call it when you cook that same bread mixture outside of the bird… Unfortunately the answer is not as clear cut as that. It turns out we use different terms based on what region we live in, no matter what ingredients we use, or whether we stuff the bird or not.

- The FDA on Wednesday announced sad news for snackers nationwide: the recall of certain boxes of Nabisco’s popular cheddar Cheese Nips. The manufacturer of the snacks, Mondelēz Global, reported the voluntary recall to the agency last Friday, revealing that a “limited quantity” of their 11-ounce Cheese Nips boxes may contain plastic inside them. Mondelēz Global said that if present, the yellow pieces would be from a dough scraper that’s used in their production process.

- Uber will apparently start recording audio during rides in the U.S., as part of the ride-hailing company’s recent safety push. The feature will let users opt in for trips and come with a warning that journeys can be recorded. The company will test the feature in Brazilian and Mexican cities in December, and it will share recordings with law enforcement upon request. Neither riders nor drivers will be able to listen to the recordings, and the audio will be encrypted for privacy purposes. After a trip, people will apparently get the chance to report a safety incident and send the recording to Uber customer support agents, who’ll assess the situation.

- The TSA is making its annual “please don’t make holiday travel more miserable than it already is” push, in which the agency begs travelers not to bring obviously prohibited items into checkpoints for at least the next few months. TSA officials try something like this every year, and it usually more or less completely fails. The problem isn’t with the airport security organization. The problem is that the kind of person who tries to bring chemical-soaked sparklers on board an airplane — really happened — isn’t the sort of person who reads TSA-related press releases.

- Researchers (Penn State) found that when asked to extend their sleep, college students who got an additional 43 minutes of sleep per night experienced less sleepiness during the day and were able to lower their blood pressure.

- In Croatia, a man who had just sat down to watch an action movie got some action in his own living room when a runaway truck full of produced crashed through the wall. The homeowner and truck driver came out of it uninjured.

- Is everyone excited about Tremors 7? Did anyone know they were making Tremors 7? Michael Gross will return. The last entry in the series was Tremors: A Cold Day In Hell, which came out in 2018.
