- Garfield the Cat Day - On this day in 1978: The Garfield comic strip debuted.

- 1941: General Mills in Minneapolis created a new dry breakfast cereal called Cheerie Oats. The name was later shortened to Cheerios.

- Kissing Day

- Want to bring some attention to your maintenance business? Have your employees dress as superheroes. A guy hired to pressure wash a church roof in Florida was caught on camera doing his job well — while dressed as Spider-Man.

- According to survey (by Jiffy Lube) 29 percent of us will ignore our check engine light for over a month.

- Research seems to confirm the obvious: it’s not just the pain of a dentist’s drill, but the fear that hurts as well. Scientists at Oxford University found the anticipation of a dentist drilling your tooth heightens the sensation, causing more pain. The same holds true for your first kiss. The anticipation alone can make your heart pound and your knees buckle.

- In India, someone was breaking into homes to make the bed. Police say at least seven homes were visited and in each case a neat freak made the bed perfectly. In one home the person even washed the sheets before making the bed.

- People in New York state are being reminded not to flush their unwanted pet fish down the toilet after a 14-inch goldfish was caught in the river near a wastewater treatment plant.
