D. Obed

In The News:
- Cuddle Up Day & Bean Day

- On this day in 1975: Wheel of Fortune premiered. Created by Merv Griffin, it is the longest-running syndicated game show in television history.

- A San Jose, California couple returned to their home one night last week to discover that someone had been in their backyard — apparently to steal water. What the couple discovered was a series of connected hoses running from their backyard for about a half mile, toward an encampment of homeless people. The hose ran from their house, into and up a creek, then out into the encampment.

- Utah’s David Whipple is the owner of what he calls “the world’s oldest hamburger” — a 20-year-old McDonald’s hamburger. The tale of David’s zombie-burger began at a McDonald’s restaurant in Logan, Utah on July 7, 1999. That’s when David bought his burger to use in presentations he was giving about enzymes and how things deteriorate… The 20-year burger experiment began accidentally. David said the burger was placed in a coat pocket. The coat was thrown in the back of his van, and he then hung the coat in a closet. Years later his wife was going to give the coat away and checked the pockets. Now, with its 20th birthday coming in July, the burger doesn’t look a day over 2 weeks and has a smell similar to that of cardboard.

- Charmin, the popular toilet paper brand, has big plans for the Consumer Electronics Show. Its Charmin GoLab will showcase conceptual prototypes all meant to improve the bathroom experience… There’s a rolling robot, the RollBot, that will deliver you a fresh roll of toilet paper and can be controlled with your phone via Bluetooth… SmellSense will check how a bathroom smells before you enter by scanning for carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide, two smelly compounds. SmellSense will provide real-time bathroom stench updates with a “GO/NO GO” display.

- Are you a recent college graduate? Are you motivated to enter the job market? Can you drive a 27-foot-long hot dog on wheels?

If the answer to those questions is "yes," "yes" and "I'll give it a shot!" (respectively), you’re exactly the type of candidate Oscar Mayer is looking for. The Chicago-based company is now officially accepting applications for its 2020 class of Wienermobile drivers -- aka “Hotdoggers” -- to drive the highways and byways of the United States, acting as a “brand spokesperson” for Oscar Mayer. Oscar Mayer said it will hire a total of 12 Hotdoggers for one-year, full-time positions -- but be warned: Much like an overcooked hot dog, competition is going to be extremely tough. Candidates who make the cut -- or “cut the mustard,” as they should get used to hearing -- will start training in June at “Hot Dog High,” where fresh Hotdoggers will learn how to “become an expert in hot dog puns” (seriously) and drive the Wienermobile.

- Krispy Kreme is giving you a little snack with less guilt. Today, Krispy Kreme announced mini doughnuts. The under-100 calorie snacks will be on the menu permanently. Flavors include Original Glazed, Chocolate Iced Glazed, Strawberry Iced with Sprinkles and Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles.

Fun Fact:

According to a survey of 1,800 office workers, two-thirds said they were interrupted up to 20 times a day. #funfact

Bonus News (not mentioned on-air):

If you ever felt the desire to cut the cheese in front of your partner but decided to hold it, you may be putting your relationship in jeopardy. At least that’s the conclusion of one study done on tooting and relationships. Relationship guru Cynthia Powell claims that couples who ‘get over’ the initial embarrassment of breaking wind in front of each other early in a relationship are more likely to stay together and live healthier lives. The New York-based relationship expert says once couples get over the initial embarrassment of farting in front of a new partner, it seems to open up a whole new period of openness, honesty and trust.
