In The News:

- Hot Sauce Day

- Wash the new clothes! A lot of people buy clothes and immediately wear them without washing them, but a study shows this can be an unintentionally filthy habit. In a study of 14 items of recently purchased clothing, many of the clothes had pretty nasty germs on them.

- How do you treat a book? Long reads can be daunting — an lugging around a hefty novel is no picnic. That’s the dilemma that was faced by a resourceful reader who decided to take matters into his own hands by cutting their long read in half. Alex Christofi took to Twitter on Tuesday to share how he makes books “more portable,” also divulging that his practice of splitting books in half has earned him the abject disgust of a colleague, who proclaimed him a “book murderer”.

- V-day vs, X-mas? According to a new poll, more than four in five Americans get genuinely excited about Valentine’s Day — even more so than Christmas. According to the survey 81 percent get excited about February 14, while just 68 percent say they get excited about the holiday season.

- Library Shelfie Day

- Downton Abbey fans you'll be happy to hear that a sequel for the Downton Abbey movie has been confirmed. After the success of the first film, creator Julian Fellowes confirmed he will be wrapping on the sequel after he wrapped up other projects. The first film was a huge success pulling in over 130 million at the box office. Did you get a chance to check out the first Downton Abbey film? Are you happy to know a sequel is on the way?

- Whopper of a theft! A woman in Austin, Texas, called police after her ex-boyfriend stole her bag of Burger King in a sneak attack. As the victim approached her apartment, the ex was hiding in the bushes, jumped out, grabbed her food and took off. Police arrested Ervin Johnson for theft, and he admitted he was upset another man was buying Burger King for his ex-girlfriend.

- Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day

- How to add a new habit! Developing a new habit — or changing a bad one — takes a lot of work and patience. So instead of starting a new habit out of the blue, stack it on top of another habit you already have. Stanford University Behavior Scientist BJ Fogg suggests, for example, doing push-ups every time you use the restroom. He started just by doing one push-up every time he went, but over time he now does eight push-ups every time. Once you’ve stacked one habit, why not stack another? After you do push-ups — or whatever your version is — stack on having a glass of water.

- “earth sandwich” An Auckland university student has created an “earth sandwich” with a stranger in Spain, after a long search for an accomplice. Etienne Naude placed a slice of white bread on the ground at Bucklands Beach in Auckland, New Zealand, using longitude and latitude to ensure he was precisely opposite a volunteer he had found in the south of Spain after posting for help on Reddit. The two men — total strangers — had 7,906 miles of earth between them, creating an “earth sandwich.” Naude said making an earth sandwich was a long-term goal of his, but he’d struggled to find someone on the other side of the world who was willing to lend a hand, and a slice of bread.

- Not so happy about that claim on cows! Ben & Jerry’s will no longer say that their famous ice cream comes from “happy cows.” The company was being sued by the Organic Consumers Association (OCA) and the environmental advocate James Ehlers. Both claim in their respective lawsuits that the Vermont-based ice cream company is mischaracterizing their environmental and animal welfare practices, as well as using deceptive labeling to mislead consumers into thinking their dairy products come solely from “happy cows.”

Fun Fact:

It’s a myth that the popular beverage Coca-Cola was originally green…Although the famous contour bottle is green, Coca-Cola has always been brown in color, since its start in 1886. #funfact

Bonus News (not mentioned on-air):
- After police stopped a car thief in Serbia, he tried to get away by telling them he was Bruce Willis and even showing them a fake passport with the actor’s name on it.
