In The News:

- Religious Freedom Day, proclaimed by the President, calling on all Americans to commemorate this day with events and activities that remind us of our shared heritage of religious liberty and that teach us how to secure this blessing both at home and around the world.

- Are you on a diet? Odds are, this time of year, you are. Maybe you’re not calling it a diet — you’re just eating, well, differently. Either way, a new study reveals the average adult will try 126 different diets during their lifetime. Assuming you begin adulthood at 18, that’s about two diets a year.

- An animal rescuer in Arizona ventured out into a pond in an inflatable boat to rescue a duck spotted struggling with some fishing wire and driftwood. After the Arizona Humane Society was called, an animal medical technician borrowed an inflatable raft from a colleague and was able to venture out onto the water. The duck is being treated for its injuries and will be returned to the wild.

- RETIRING AT 102: A World War II veteran who is the oldest person working for the state of Indiana has decided that it is finally time for him to retire. He has worked as a surveyor, gathering field data for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, for about 6 decades. Bob Vollmer is 102 years old. Vollmer said he plans to spend his retirement devoting himself to reading and farming. He also plans to take trips to some of the South Pacific islands he was on during his wartime service with the U.S. Navy. Vollmer enlisted in the Navy after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.

- Appreciate A Dragon Day

- COCA-COLA WITH COFFEE: Coca-Cola is making it socially acceptable to crack open a can of soda first thing in the morning. The brand is launching a line of soda with coffee drinks. The soda-coffee hybrid canned beverage is expected to come in Dark Blend, Vanilla, and Caramel flavors. The 12-ounce cans pack in 70 calories. This isn’t the first time Coca-Cola has gone the coffee route. Coca-Cola BlāK, a coffee-flavored soda, debuted in 2006 and was pulled from shelves two years later… The Coca-Cola with Coffee news comes not long after Pepsi announcing the launch of Pepsi Café, which is also schedule to hit shelves this year, in April.

- If your dishwasher isn't doing the job, maybe it’s the fault of the instructions given by your dishwasher’s manufacturers. Researchers (University of Birmingham) have done the dirty work and say the trick is to load the dishwasher in a circular fashion — not in straight rows. And dishes should also be grouped together by stain. Carbohydrate-stained dishes should be placed in the middle of the dishwasher’s drawers while protein-stained items should be put in an inward facing ring around them.

- Quinoa Day

- CHIMPS SEEN ‘READING’ A NEWSPAPER _ A video of two chimpanzees in a Chinese wildlife park that suggests they have the ability to read a newspaper. The video (on Weibo) shows two chimpanzees living in a wildlife park in Northwest China holding a few pages of a newspaper and seemingly reading the text and looking at the images. One of the chimps seems to finish reading part of the paper and then gently place it on the floor. The two chimpanzees even occasionally turn the pages like humans. Park staffers regularly put a newspaper in the chimps’ enclosure after a paper was accidentally left there and the animals seemed interested in it.

- An 86-year-old bank robber was easily captured Monday in South Carolina, after he apparently drove too cautiously to make the necessary fast getaway.

- The third Monday in January became a black day in 2005 when Cliff Arnall was paid by a public relations firm to identify the most miserable date on the calendar in order to promote a vacation company. The psychologist and self-styled ‘freelance happiness guru’ chose the date based on a pseudo-mathematical formula involving the weather, debt, motivational levels and time elapsed since Christmas… Arnall has since admitted the idea of a single most depressing day was “not particularly helpful” because it became “a self-fulfilling prophecy” and that achieving happiness and being less materialistic was a year-round aim. He said the third Monday in January should instead be used to “get a bit of perspective” about our own lives.

Bonus News (not mentioned on-air):
An unnamed Oklahoma woman is being mocked on social media after one of her co-workers shared a poorly edited photo of a flat tire that she had allegedly used to justify being late for work. Twitter user Sydney Whitson posted the photo that her colleague allegedly sent her boss last week. A close look at the photo reveals there’s something not quite right about the nail. It looks very cartoonish, and the tire it seems to be stuck into appears heavily edited as well. Unfortunately for the anonymous woman, her boss was quick to notice too, and apparently shared the photo with the rest of the workplace… Whitson tweeted with the photo: “My co-worker called in (yet again) and said she had a nail on her tire that caused her to have a flat. I need everyone to stop what they’re doing and zoom into the nail in the picture she sent to my boss.

**** a tip for those saving real pics to use one day*****

If your boss is smart enough and if they have an iPhone (idk if it’s the same for Android)...if you save a pic to your photos that someone sent, it’ll show you the time and date when u find it in your photos****
