In The News:
- Collector Car Appreciation Day - I collect VW beetles… as hotwheels… does that count?
- It’s also National Motorcycle Day
- on this day in 1960: Etch A Sketch went on sale.
- On this day in 1933: Congress passed the first federal minimum wage law in the United States: 33 cents per hour.
- Kids these days are smart — but not so smart they can’t be fooled by online fraud. New research shows 47 percent of payment scam victims in the last year were under the age of 30.
- The next time you ride an elevator you may want to wear gloves. Elevator buttons are filthier than toilet seats. According to the study the prevalence buttons with bacteria was 61 percent. On the toilets, it was 43 percent. That’s okay I guess… When it comes to touching those elevator buttons, my kids always beat me to it.
- YOUR CAT IS IN CONTROL _ Crafty cats coax their owners into giving them extra food and attention by using a special purr. Scientists (University of Sussex) said manipulative cats use a “soliciting purr” which has a similar frequency to a human baby’s cry. It is thought that this higher-pitched sound triggers a subconscious sense of urgency in the owner, making them give the cat whatever it wants.
- If you’re hoping to be promoted at work, consider changing your last name to something easy, like Smith, Sherman, or Jones. A study (Melbourne University and NYU Stern School of Business) showed that people with simple names enjoy quicker career advancement because hard-to-pronounce names inspire negative reactions from superiors.
- We may think we fear signs of aging — like wrinkles or thinning hair — but a poll shows that we’ll actually feel more attractive when we’re older. According to 85,000 interviews, seniors are more confident in their physical appearance than any other adult demographic. Two-thirds of Americans 65 and older reported feeling good about their appearance, rating their confidence level at a four or five on a five-point scale.
Fun Fact:One in five office workers have one of these in their desk. (Toothbrush) #funfact
Bonus News (not mentioned on-air):This Sunday (July 14) is: Macaroni and Cheese Day. Shark Awareness Day.
