In The News:
- 1969: Apollo 11 and its astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin ”Buzz” Aldrin and Michael Collins went into orbit around the moon.

- Raspberry Cake Day

- Microsoft says it has a new technology to protect U.S. elections from hackers.

- Moms and dads are struggling… struggling to find space for their kids’ arts and crafts pieces. A new survey finds the average child will produce more than 2,000 arts and crafts items for their parents.

- The United States set a record for most precipitation. The 12-month period from July 2018 to June 2019 was the wettest on record.

- Who knew? As most of the country deals with a heat wave, firefighters are reminding people to stay hydrated. But when you do, don't leave half-full water bottles in the car; they could start fires. "If you do leave a bottle of water in your vehicle and the sun catches it just right, it could act like a magnifying glass," says Charlottesville firefighter Frank Scopelliti. "[It could] heat a specific spot and start a smoldering fire that could eventually become a real fire." Acknowledging that the idea might sound a little far-fetched, the Midwest City Fire Department in Oklahoma conducted an experiment, holding a water bottle in front of a piece of paper on a sunny day. Sure enough, the concentrated sunlight quickly burned a hole right through the paper.

- Knowing which seats on a plane are the most dangerous in a crash is a morbid, yet perhaps useful piece of information to have filed away somewhere in your brain. However, no one really wants an airline that they may travel on to tweet out such a fact out, basically saying, “Come fly with us! But just know, if you book one of these seats, your chances of survival go down considerably in a crash.”… This is a lesson Dutch airline KLM in India is learning this week after they tweeted as a part of their “Trivia Tuesday” program. The tweet read: “According to Time, the fatality rate for the seats in the middle of the plane is the highest. However, the fatality rate for the seats in the front is marginally lesser and is least for seats at the rear third of a plane.” …. Makes sense… I’ve never seen a plane back into a mountain.

- A study reveals the average person will spend more than two years of their life bored to tears. Experts found the typical adult will waste almost six hours a week feeling completely and utterly bored with life. The main reason for the boredom was “having no money.”

- In Sweden two guys called a cab and asked the cabbie if he could also take along their bicycle. As the cabbie was attaching the bicycle to the rear of the cab, he noticed it looked familiar. Upon further inspection he realized it was his bicycle. The two cab customers had stolen the cabbie’s bike while he was at work and then by chance had called the very same cabbie to ask for a ride. Once in his cab the cabbie locked the back doors and drove them to the police station.

- According to new research published in the American Psychologist (the flagship journal of the American Psychological Association) women are finally seen as equally intelligent as men. This comes from an analysis of 16 public opinion polls totaling more than 30,000 U.S. adults from 1946 to 2018. In a 1946 poll, only 35% of those surveyed thought men and women were equally intelligent. In one 2018 poll, 86% believed they were equally intelligent. That’s not equal, but of those who believed intelligence was not equal, 9% believed women were more intelligent and only 5% believed men were more intelligent.

Bonus News (not mentioned on-air):Over half of men admit to feeling “embarrassed” about their body hair. 55 percent of all respondents said they felt ashamed of their body hair, with one in five saying they feel this way “often.” Nearly one-third of men surveyed (31 percent) said they’ve avoided swimming before out of embarrassment of their body hair, while another one in four (27 percent) said they’ve avoided the gym.
