- On this day in 1879: Thomas Edison invented a workable electric light at his laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey.

- Mountain Dew is more than a soda — it’s also a candle. The Mountain Dew-scented candle comes from Etsy shop 716 Candle Co. The candle comes in an upcycled Mountain Dew can.

- Domino’s Pizza restaurants in Japan are upping the scariness this Halloween with their “Halloween Roulette” pizza. The 8 slice pizza can be made however pizza-lovers want, however one slice will randomly be made with Ghost pepper sauce added with a small dropper. The Ghost pepper was once one of the hottest peppers in the world. Now, peppers like the Carolina Reaper have upstaged the Ghost pepper. Domino’s Japan promises that there is only a small amount of Ghost pepper sauce on the pizza slice and that the person who eats it “won’t suffer unbearably.”

- Kids need to be aware about next week. A new survey of parents finds 78% admit to stealing from their kid’s Halloween candy, with 28% eating more candy than their own kids.

- A funny way to see if you’re alert. Researchers (Western Washington University) wanted to test how alert smartphone users were of their surroundings compared to the general population. So they dressed a student as a clown and had him ride his unicycle around campus. The observers asked walkers if they had noticed anything unusual, and for those who didn’t, they asked specifically if they had seen a unicycling clown. Even when directly asked, the phone users were less than half as likely to notice the clown as those listening to music or single individuals without any electronics. People who walked in pairs were the most likely to see the clown.

- An Alabama man was injured after he was run over by his all terrain vehicle. The throttle was accidentally released by… his dog.
