In The News:
- Croc Day (the shoes, not the animal) & TV Talk Show Host Day
- on this day in 2001: Apple unveiled the iPod. It officially went on sale on November 10, 2001, for $399.
- A TV station in Dallas has issued an apology after delaying a tornado warning so as not to interrupt a football game. (They were looking for the wrong kind of touchdown)
- A tranquil nap in the afternoon can be a great way to break up the day and add some pep to your step for the rest of your daily routine. Now, researchers in Switzerland have found another reason why you should consider enjoying a regular daytime snooze: taking a daytime nap once or twice a week may lower your risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke… The study authors note that the period of time spent napping didn’t seem to influence this benefit, nor did napping any more than twice per week.
- They’re faithful, friendly and furry — but under their harmless, fluffy exteriors, dogs and cats, the world’s most popular house pets, use up more energy resources in a year than driving a car. A study out of New Zealand some time ago said keeping a medium-sized dog has the same ecological impact as driving 6,200 miles in an SUV.
- When it comes to making healthy food and beverage choices, a study shows that people are better off knowing both the number of calories they’re consuming and the amount of exercise it would take to burn them off. In the study when a sign next to a soda read “250 calories, or five miles of walking,” consumers were more likely to leave the soft drink on the shelf than if only the calories were posted.
- In North Carolina, the Madison County Public Library knew it needed a new policy governing service animals when a man walked into a library branch carrying a bag of snakes. After approaching the card-carrying library member, interim director Peggy Goforth asked him about the bag. He said, “My pets are harmless. Here, let me show you,” and he poured them out on the front desk... Goforth said the man “had pythons and boas” and was “very proud of his snakes. He had to pick each one up, tell me their names and how long he had them.” Goforth respectfully explained to the man that snakes were not allowed in the library.
- California investigators are searching for a suspect who stole another women’s identity and used it to buy a Lexus from a dealership (in Lodi). “The next day the dealership heard from the real person, who said, “Hey, my ID was stolen.” The identity thief not only fooled the dealership, but also the DMV and the bank where she got the car loan from.
Fun Fact:This is the most shoplifted food item in the U.S. (Candy) #funfact
Bonus News (not mentioned on-air):In California a couple of guys made arrangements to buy a $100,000 ring at a jewelry story (in Manteca). Instead they made off with the ring. Someone gave the suspects’ vehicle info to the California Highway Patrol, which was able to locate and arrest the men. Unfortunately, the ring was nowhere to be found. Suspecting that one of men was hiding the ring in his body, police officers obtained a search warrant and found the ring in a suspect via X-ray. The suspect did not swallow the ring. The ring was recovered then by medical officials.
