- On this day in 1946: The first electric blanket was sold in Petersburg, Virginia, for $39.50.

- According to new research, Americans eat 387 meals by themselves every year. That’s about 7½ alone meals a week. But alone doesn’t always mean lonely. The survey revealed that 68 percent of Americans look forward to eating a meal alone. The top reason: It’s more relaxing.

- The special bond between humans and dogs has been scientifically proven to help people live longer. 70 years of global research has found that owning a dog "is actively protective against dying of any cause." There's a 24 percent drop in "cause mortality" for people who have a dog in their life. People who walk their dogs tend to get 30 minutes of extra exercise than those who don't. Also, petting a dog can reduce your blood pressure.

- One-third of U.S. workplaces provide free coffee to their employees, but just half of those workers find the coffee tolerable and one in 10 say it’s terrible.

- Want to feel good about yourself? Just get off the couch and do a little exercise. You don’t even have to get real serious. The study (University of Florida) reviewed 57 intervention studies on the topic of exercise and how it makes people feel, and found that “the simple act of exercise and not fitness itself can convince you that you look better.”

- In an Ohio town, a teen got home from school to discover the family dog barking outside, and a sliding glass door shattered. The kid’s mom called the sheriff’s office (Ashland County) after they figured out a goat had crashed into their family home. The mom and the deputies vets, animal control and the local Humane Society for advice. She said everyone laughed at them and they laughed too but they really needed help. Finally, the deputies decided to attempt corralling the goat out themselves. They tried tying a rope around its neck, enticing it with carrots, dog bones, and grass. At one point, the goat turned around and ran into the bathroom. Eventually the two deputies each grabbed a horn and managed to lead the goat outside and into a large dog cage.

- A new study examined the personality differences in people based on their morning beverage of choice: coffee or tea. If you’re a creative, introverted morning person, then odds are you prefer coffee over tea. Tea drinkers are more likely to be extroverted, adventurous night owls… The average coffee drinker typically downs 3.4 cups a day, while tea fans sip through 2.7 cups.

Fun Fact:Each year, the average person eats 17 gallons of popped popcorn. #funfact
