- Kale is dead. A story in The Atlantic claims the bitter leafy green has lost its luster. Google trend searches for the one-time “IT” vegetable have been plummeting most of the year — except for in January, when most Americans suck it up and eat the foods generally seen as healthy. Otherwise, sales of kale have tumbled… The Atlantic says it’s more than just Google trend searches signaling the vegetable’s demise: Earlier this year, kale made its way onto the Dirty Dozen list, an annual compilation of the most pesticide-ridden fruits and vegetables by the Environmental Working Group (EWG). Plus, there’s the fact it’s not all that healthy anyway, compared to other healthy foods. A highly publicized 2014 Centers for Disease Control study of leafy greens found that kale was only the 15th healthiest of the bunch.
- Most Americans aren’t taking Mom’s advice to “eat your vegetables.” A survey shows only 27 percent of adults nationwide eat the recommended three or more servings of vegetables a day, and just 33 percent get two or more servings of fruit.
- Did you know your dog gets jealous when you pet another dog? That’s according to researchers at the University of California, San Diego, who watched 36 dog owners interact with an animated dog. While the owners petted the fake dog, their real dogs started showing signs of jealousy, including pushing at their owner or the rival dog. The dogs were trying to break up the connection between the owners and a rival.
- A British girl who put her grandmother up for auction online said the 61-year-old fetched bids of $3,200 before the website pulled the listing. The girl said she listed her grandmother for auction because she was “annoying.”
