- on this day in 1965: The Gateway Arch was completed in St. Louis. It would open to the public the following summer.
- Self-driving cars are supposedly the way of the future, but a new study (University of Adelaide) finds that driverless cars could actually lead to more traffic congestion in major cities. The reason why? The study shows most riders won’t be willing to share their ride, ultimately resulting in more cars on the road.
- There may be some truth to the saying that all women will eventually turn into their mothers, with a study finding daughters age and wrinkle like their mothers. Plastic surgeons used facial imaging and 3D computer modeling to study the aging process and found that daughters’ faces tend to follow their mothers in terms of sagging and volume loss, particularly around the corners of their eyes and lower eyelids. Researchers found that volume loss in the lower eyelid began when women were in their mid-30s and continued to progress steadily through life.
- A Seattle man broke into a financial office earlier this month, but was foiled by his own hunger for chocolate. The unidentified 44-year old snuck into the building and ate $200 worth of chocolate before becoming so tired he removed his shoes and jacket and laid down on an office couch. When security arrived the man was still lying on the couch.
- A guy in France blew up part of his house with his washing machine. The man told police that he was trying to remove a grease stain from his shirt when he poured a cup of gasoline in the washer. When the machine changed cycles, a spark ignited the gasoline.
- Popeyes has rekindled this summer's chicken sandwiches war, announcing Monday that the return of theirs is less than a week away. The chicken chain was engaged in a battle with competitor Chick-fil-A, selling out their entire three-month supply in just weeks. "Y'all…the sandwich is back Sunday, November 3rd. Then every day," reads the tweet from Popeyes. While that date coincides with this year's National Sandwich Day, it also gives the company the upper hand. All Chick-fil-A locations are closed on Sundays.
- Starting today, if you have a few quarters, you can get a snack at Applebee's. The restaurant is rolling out 25 cent boneless wings! The limited-time offer is to celebrate all of the sports seasons converging on each other. The deal is for dine-in customers only.
Fun Fact:You’ve probably already suspected this, but it’s estimated that at least 15% of online reviews are fake. #funfact
